an iconic character will return to the series

A former heroine present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), since practically the very beginning, will return in the series “Secret Invasion”. We are obviously talking about Maria Hill, the former agent of SHIELD, played by Cobie Smulders.

Secret Invasion : the Skrulls are approaching

For a few years now, the Skrulls play a recurring role in the MCU. First introduced in Captain marvel, this shapeshifter alien race then returned to Spider-Man: Far From Home and in WandaVision. A way for the MCU to slowly but surely extend its tentacles regarding the Secret Invasion.

In the comics, this Secret Invasion is an iconic crossover. Published in 2008 and scripted by Brian M Bendis, the Secret Invasion tells how the Skrulls attempted to take control of Earth by replacing influential figures across the world (celebrities, politicians and obviously superheroes). Through this, the Skrulls therefore began a secret and underlying invasion that took years to be revealed to the world, culminating in a violent clash that ended in an unexpected rescue of Norman Osborn.

No doubt the same is happening in the MCU right now. The events of Avengers: Infinity War undoubtedly accelerated the invasion process, allowing the Skrulls to more easily take the place of some superheroes gone in smoke. Thus, we learn at the end of Far From Home that Nick Fury and Maria Hill are Skrulls themselves. There is also a theory which suggests that Sharon Carter is also a Skrull in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In short, it is quite possible that these green extraterrestrials are already well established in society, thus allowing the production of the series Secret Invasion.

Maria Hill back in the Marvel series

Directed by Kyle Bradstreet, the series Secret Invasion should therefore logically adapt the comics of Brian M Bendis. Even if we do not yet know much about the show, there is already a beginning of casting, composed of Samuel L Jackson in Nick Fury, of Ben Mendelsohn back in the skin of Skrull Talos, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke in as yet unknown roles.

The distribution has now just grown since according to Screenrant Cobie Smulders to return as Maria Hill for the needs of Secret Invasion. The star of How I Met Your Mother has already played the famous agent of SHIELD in five times in the MCU. She should also be back in the series soon. Nick fury, and therefore in Secret Invasion.

Maria Hill was an important supporting character during the first phase of the MCU. Even if her presence became rarer thereafter, the protagonist nevertheless appeared a few times as in the series. Agents of SHIELD, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier or even more recently in Spider-Man: Far From Home. There is a good chance that the actress have a much bigger role to play in Nick fury and Secret Invasion (the two series should also be potentially linked).

While waiting for the release of the two series, we leave you with the above images of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the next MCU film, due on December 15th. It remains to be seen if Skrulls will hide in Jon Watts’ film.
