It was said that the “American Nightmare” saga was to end with the recent opus “Without Limits” but a sixth feature film is now in preparation. For the occasion, Frank Grilllo will return as Leo Barnes. A good argument to rally the fans in theaters.
American Nightmare : a saga that lasts
As long as it works, the team behind the films American Nightmare has no reason to stop. Yet it has been said repeatedly that Without limits, the last part to date released this year, could serve as a conclusion. The concept has already been largely sanded down. Initially, the original film was about how the United States had managed to stem a high crime rate by authorizing a Purge.
Thus, for a few hours, all crimes were authorized, without the police or hospital staff being able to intervene. The idea is great, on paper, but we quickly saw that the universe went round in circles from film to film. So we wouldn’t have had any great regrets if everything ended with Without limits. The latter worked well, in a complex context, with $ 112 million won at the global box office.
Former franchise actor on return for sixth episode
Fans who still follow the development of the universe will surely be happy to hear thata sixth opus is in preparation. It was actor Frank Grillo who released the information during an interview with The Playlist. If he allows himself to talk about it, it is becausehe will also be in the casting, thus signing a return after his absence in the last two episodes. He will therefore resume the role of Leo Barnes he had held since the second American Nightmare. This new scenario will be centered on this character, without knowing exactly what angle has been defined. Its reappearance in the universe is a major asset to justify another film being started. We would probably have received this news less well if such a veteran was not in the game.
Another regular will be back, but behind the camera, since James DeMonaco, director of the first three films, has agreed to be in charge. He did not stray from the franchise because he was still a screenwriter on the last two episodes. Like all American Nightmare, it will be produced with a moderate budget to avoid disappointment when going to theaters. No release date is yet scheduled.
