“Ambulance”, the explosive new work by Michael Bay, has been in theaters since March 23. The filmmaker took advantage of a recent interview to make a statement that has a good chance of being true. He considers himself to be the director who has destroyed the most vehicles during his career.
Ambulance: new lap for Michael Bay
On March 23, Michael Bay presented his brand new creation: Ambulance. A remake of the eponymous Danish film by Laurits Munch-Petersen, Ambulance tells how two brothers rob a bank and evade authorities inside an ambulance. The only problem, it is occupied by a seriously injured policeman and a young nurse. Then begins a mad chase of more than two hours in the streets of Los Angeles.
Carried by Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Eiza Gonzalez, this new production by Michael Bay receives quite positive feedback. On the box office side, the feature film has already brought in more than $18 million in revenue.
The biggest destroyer of vehicles of the seventh art?
In more than 20 years of their career, Michael Bay has established himself as an essential director in Hollywood. He has earned a reputation as an eccentric filmmaker, very focused on action and big explosions. There’s even a name for his cinematic style: the Bayhem. It’s the contraction between Bay and “mayhem”, which means “chaos” in English. It must be said that his career is full of extravagant blockbusters: transformers, bad boys, Armageddon, 6 Underground, etc. And Ambulance is no exception to the rule.
In a recent interview for ScreenRant, the American media asked Michael Bay how many vehicles were destroyed during the filming of Ambulance. The filmmaker didn’t have the exact figure in mind, but said he was “probably the director who has destroyed the most vehicles in the history of cinema”. Although there is no data to verify such claims, at a glance this claim could be true. Most of his films are conducive to the destruction of cars, motorcycles, boats, and other helicopters. Here is Michael Bay’s response:
I don’t know, but someone can count. But I’ve definitely destroyed more vehicles than any other director in history. Just to give an example, I was in a Chinese car factory. They were very excited to show me around their stand which explodes the dummies during crash tests. And I was like, “I’m not impressed, man. Okay? I’ve crushed more cars than you’ve ever had in your life.”
If you like it, we let you count the number of vehicles destroyed by Michael Bay during his career to see if his statement is true. As a reminder, Ambulance is currently in theaters, and it’s a very cool proposal, perfect for lovers of Bayhem. For the moment, the filmmaker has not yet revealed what will be his next achievement. But for sure, this will be a pretext to destroy as many vehicles as possible.
