With the continuing boom in the series landscape, there is hardly a big star who has not yet got his own show. One of the exceptions so far is Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford – but not for much longer thanks to the Apple series “Shrinking”.
Harrison Ford’s acting career has spanned more than 50 years and has produced iconic characters such as Han Solo, Rick Deckard, and Indiana Jones (as the latter he reappears in 2023’s Indiana Jones 5). However, the 79-year-old has so far largely stayed away from the series sector – apart from very isolated guest appearances, for example in an episode of the Indy prequel series “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones”.
But now Ford is doing the same as many of his famous fellow actors and is becoming part of the permanent ensemble of a series for the first time: Harrison Ford is set to star in the new Apple comedy series Shrinking alongside How I Met Your Mother star, Jason Segel. The US trade journals report unanimously.
That’s what “Shrinking” is about
The main character of “Shrinking” is the burned-out therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel), who one day decides to always tell his patients his opinions bluntly from now on. Even if he regularly violates ethical rules in doing so, he also changes the lives of many for the better thanks to his unorthodox manner.
Harrison Ford plays Jimmy’s boss Dr. Phil Rhodes, a pioneer in the field of behavioral therapy, who also doesn’t mince his words. However, his life is turned upside down when he is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. As he comes to terms with the fact that his family and friends will treat him differently, he becomes increasingly concerned about his legacy.
The new series from the “Ted Lasso” team
Behind the scenes, lead actor Jason Segel is himself responsible for Shrinking along with Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence and Emmy Award winner Brett Goldstein. Lawrence and Goldstein are already part of the team that puts together the acclaimed series hit “Ted Lasso” for Apple, which we also consider to be one of the best series of all time (and in which Goldstein also stars as fan-favorite Roy Kent himself). . For Bill Lawrence, “Shrinking” is even the third Apple project, as he is currently working on the upcoming detective series “Bad Monkey”.
It is not yet known when the ten episodes of the first “Shrinking” season will be released worldwide on the Apple streaming service Apple TV+. Due to the busy schedules of those involved, however, it should not be ready until 2023.
