Netflix’s new South Korean hit has its share of twists and turns. But one of the deaths in All Of Us Are Dead may not be final. Here’s why.
Warning, spoilers. It is advisable to have seen the All Of Us Are Dead series before continuing to read this article.
Adapted from the webtoon Now at Our School by Joo Dong-Geun from 2009, All Of Us Are Dead is Netflix’s new South Korean hit. Combining horror thriller and teen melodrama, the series tells how a group of high school students try to survive a zombie invasion on the school grounds after a virus created by one of the teachers spreads.
The chaos brings the students together and pushes them to reveal their feelings and their true personalities. After being neighbors for years, Lee Cheong-san (Yoon Chan-young) and Nam On-jo (Park Ji-hoo) finally reveal their feelings after Lee Cheong-san gets bitten.
Knowing he is doomed, Lee Cheong-san engages in a final fight with Yoon Gwi-Nam (Yoo In-soo), the half-human, half-zombie thug who has spent the entire season of All Of Us Are Dead chasing the group of survivors. As they fight, the army drops bombs on the virus-hit centers of Hyosan.
All that is seen of Lee Cheong-san after the explosion is her body covered in ash and other charred corpses of zombies as well as the Nam On-jo name tag she gave him before the explosion. he sacrifices himself. This, therefore, assumes that he is indeed dead and that his adventure ends with his act of bravery.
A return in season 2?
But All Of Us Are Dead has accustomed us throughout the twelve episodes of the first season to many twists and turns. With the success of the series on Netflix, it would be surprising if it was not renewed for a second season and if the writers did not already have ideas for new episodes.
Knowing that the virus mutates and that Lee Cheong-san was bitten by Yoon Gwi-Nam, whose mutated virus made him half-human, half-zombie, he too may have become a hybrid being and could have survived the explosion.
In the final episode, we learn that Choi Nam-Ra (Cho Yi-Hyun), the half-human, half-zombie class representative, had survived and was in hiding to help others like them. Lee Cheong-san might be among those people, who must learn to control their hunger and new superhuman abilities.
If All Of Us Are Dead is renewed for a second season, the fate of Lee Cheong-san will necessarily be explained.
