A Squid Game actress is in the cast of the series All Of Us Are Dead, the new South Korean hit on Netflix. Did you recognize her?
The global success of Squid Game has increased the popularity of South Korean series on Netflix and the latest original creation is no exception. Combining teenage stories and zombie invasion, All Of Us Are Dead very quickly slipped into the top of the platform’s viewings to reach first place.
This webtoon adaptation Now at Our School by Joo Dong-geun from 2009 chronicles the survival of students at Hyosan High School ravaged by zombies. Stuck in the school, the students will try everything to get out of it without becoming the living dead themselves.
Among the students of this horror series created by Cheon Seong-il, we find an actress already seen in Squid Game. Lee Yoo Mi, who portrayed Ji Yeong (#240), a young woman who sacrificed herself to marbles to save Kang Sae-byeok (#067) (Jung Ho-yeon), finds herself in All Of Us Are Dead to camp a high school girl with a totally opposite character.
From heroine to villain
In the zombie series, the 27-year-old actress is unrecognizable with her long hair and much more serious look and plays Na-yeon, a totally detestable character. This haughty and contemptuous student criticizes her classmates, never admits her faults and does not hesitate to commit the irreparable.
And Lee Yoo Mi had warned the public about this drastic change during the press conference of All Of Us Are Dead, reported by GMA Network.
The actress explains that she did her best to make her character “rich and cute girl, who stirs up all the problems and conflicts that occur in the series, as hateful as possible”.
Even though Lee Yoo Mi had fun portraying Na-yeon, she fears that the audience will hate her and doesn’t want to repeat the experience of playing an evil character yet:
“I know a lot of you might hate the character and hate me at the same time. But in the future, because of that, I wish I could introduce you to another more endearing and charming character.”
The reactions were not long in coming since Internet users are already criticizing Na-yeon on social networks. Let’s hope it doesn’t go beyond the character and the audience will be able to tell the difference between Na-yeon and her interpreter Lee Yoo Mi. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be the first time an actor or actress has been criticized and insulted. because of a character.
