Released this Wednesday, November 10 at the cinema, “Aline” is very strongly inspired by the life of Celine Dion without being a real biopic. Guest of the preview organized for the DashFUN Club 300, Valérie Lemercier explained this name change.
It’s a biopic that isn’t quite one. Because even if she is freely inspired by the life of Celine Dion, as the film poster specifies, Valérie Lemercier tells that of Aline Dieu. A singer also born in Quebec and endowed with a prodigious voice, who will become a huge world star.
Any resemblance to existing people is therefore not accidental, but why did Valérie Lemercier choose to change the names, and to transform Céline into Aline?
“That is to say, it exists”, replies the actress, screenwriter and director of the film at the end of a preview organized for the Club 300 of DashFUN. “She’s alive. She’s younger than me. Much much more famous. So I’m not going to lie and say my name is Celine Dion. That would be a very, very big lie. So the record she’s signing is that. is ‘Aline Dieu – The voice of the good Dion’, while Celine’s real record was called ‘Celine Dion – The voice of the good God’. “
“It was easier to invent things, to lie, so that we didn’t have the names of real people, so as not to embarrass… So that a brother wouldn’t tell us’ In 1998 my sweater was red and not blue. ‘ Then she had fifteen houses, you only saw three. And vis-à-vis René too. It was also funnier to put a little of yourself in there. “
I’m not gonna lie and say my name is Celine Dion
“And it’s a fiction”, adds Sylvain Marcel, interpreter of Aline’s husband, Guy-Claude, in the film. “It’s a fiction heavily inspired by Celine’s life. So the names are changed.”
