“Spider-Man: No Way Home” offered many surprises to fans. For a long time Marvel tried to hide the return of certain characters, but could not avoid some leaks, including a visit from Alfred Molina, the interpreter of Doctor Octopus.
Spider-Man No Way Homea Marvel for fans
For years now, Marvel productions have been synonymous with success. But some films have clearly stood out with monstrous scores at the box office. This was the case of Spider-Man: No Way Home who reported almost two billion dollars in the world. In comparison, the following films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) brought in at least half as many spectators.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness grossed over $955 million worldwide, while Thor : Love and Thunder stopped at $760 million. Undoubtedly real successes. But No Way Home was clearly in another category.

It must be said that the film did everything to attract the greatest number of people by bringing back old versions of Spider-Man. In addition to Tom Holland, the interpreter of Peter Parker in the MCU, Andrew Garfield (the Amazing Spider-Man) and Tobey Maguire (the Sam Raimi trilogy) resumed their roles. Returns made possible scriptwise by the introduction of the multiverse. Indeed, in the film, Peter asks Doctor Strange to do a spell so that the world forgets that he is Spider-Man.
But following an incident, different universes will meet and the other versions of the superhero will arrive in Parker’s world. However, they are not the only ones to be projected into this world. Famous Villains from the Marvel Universe are also part of it.
Alfred Molina’s dumpling
Thus the Green Goblin, Electro, the Sandman, the Lizard and above all Doctor Octopus were there to face our heroes. In this Spider-Man: No Way Home focused primarily on fan service, which will have paid off. Inevitably, Marvel will have done everything to hide these revelations and keep the surprise for the fans. Except that some leaks could not be avoided. In particular one coming directly from one of the interpreters of the film: Alfred Molina.
The actor, who therefore embodies Doctor Octopus, returned in an interview with RadioTimes on his “dumpling” before the release of the film. He had in fact confirmed in spite of himself his return while answering “innocently” to a journalist.
It was accidental. I was chatting with a reporter who said, “So how’s the Spider-Man movie going?” And I said “Oh, very good, thank you.” The next day Variety headlined “Alfred Molina reveals the return of Doctor Octopus.” I got in serious trouble after that.
He goes on to reveal that he was later lectured on the phone by producer Amy Pascal and heard of the annoyance of Kevin Feigewho, during a red carpet, was asked about upcoming Marvel projects and replied coldly: “Ask Alfred Molina“.
If the regular unforeseen revelations of Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland tend to amuse the gallery, that of Alfred Molina seems to have caused a little tension. In any case, now the actor learned the lesson and each time he is asked about the future of the character is content to answer: “I can neither confirm nor deny“.
