Jérémie Renier at the heart of a moving drama
This eighth feature film follows the daily life of Laurent, played by Jérémie Renier, who sees his life change after a terrible drama happened through his fault. The official synopsis of the film Albatross by Xavier Beauvois is as follows:
Laurent, a brigade commander of the gendarmerie of Étretat, plans to marry Marie (Marie-Julie Maille), his companion, mother of his daughter nicknamed Poulette (Madeleine Beauvois). He loves his job despite a daily confrontation with social misery. While trying to save a farmer who threatens to commit suicide, he kills him. His life will then change.
Jérémie Renier quite rightly embodies a character gnawed by remorse and tormented psychologically by the tragedy which shakes his life. He sets sail with his boat for take a step back on his life and on himself. Xavier Beauvois illustrates here the daily life of some gendarmes and the difficulties they have to face. Albatross is a deeply human film that raises several current topics.
