Great game released in 2010 created by the Finnish studio Remedy, a true tribute to Stephen King but also to David Lynch, Alan Wake will have a sequel, expected in 2023! A sequel awaited in vain for years.
An announcement that is frankly fun. The finnish studio Remedy (the dads of Max Payne!) formalized last night during the ceremony of Game Awards the long awaited sequel to his game Alan Wake! The rumor, which has been running for years, finally materializes. And we even have a release date: 2023. Of course, it’s still a long way off, but at least the formidable license seems to be on the right track.
It was Sam Lake, the creator of the game, who made the announcement last night ofAlan wake ii, with a trailer …
If you missed the start …
Released in 2010, after five long and painful years of development, the first game starred Alan Wake, author of successful thrillers. The latter rented with his wife Alice an isolated chalet near Bright falls, a charming village nestled in the heart of a mountain range, in the heart of the United States. This escapade was an opportunity for him to get closer to his wife who understood him less and less, and to overcome her terrible anguish of the blank page. To the point of sowing trouble in his career and endangering his relationship.
Corn Bright falls hid a dark secret, and the cottage by the lake was not the haven of peace the writer had come to seek. When Alice disappeared, Wake started looking for her, and discovered the pages of a book he didn’t remember having written.
As he sank deeper and deeper into the woods at the cost of increasingly uncertain sanity, the pages of this book came to life. Darkness seized Alan; the chalet became the antechamber of Hell, while the majestic forest became the hunting ground of evil forces …
In 2018, Variety reported thatAlan Wake would be adapted as a TV series, under the leadership of screenwriter and Showrunner Peter Calloway (Cloak & Dagger, Legion), and especially Sam Lake Himself, the game’s creator, who also worked on the script and will act as executive producer.
Basically, it was almost a fair return of things, so much the formidable game was literally conceived as a TV series, with its episodes, summaries of previous episodes, its cliffhangers, etc … A bewitching and very catchy universe , which borrowed largely from the disturbing universe of Twin Peaks, but also enormously from Stephen King, in particular his work The Dark Part, as well as that of John Carpenter, of which his Den of the madness was a big source of inspiration.
If the studio Remedy had started working on a sequel, it never came out, despite the 4.5 million copies sold of the first game. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, released in 2012, was not a direct sequel but a Spin Off.
“We see an extended universe, in which Alan Wake is a very central character” Sam Lake explained, during the announcement of the future TV series in 2018. “But we have many other characters around him, like Agent Barry Wheeler, his wife Alice, Sheriff Sarah Breaker … Alan Wake’s universe is vast, and offers many avenues of exploration. The original story of the game is our starting point; the seed from which we will explore a larger story in the TV series. “
For the little bit more info, the remastered version ofAlan wake for PS5 recently released. Here’s a trailer, to see what it looks like, especially in terms of the vibe for those of you who don’t know.
