No one dared to believe it anymore, and yet: more than 10 years after the release of the first episode, Alan Wake 2 is finally a reality, and takes advantage of the Game Awards 2021 to officially announce itself.
If there was still more proof that in 2021, anything is possible in the small world of video games, here is one that is likely to waver the most skeptics: Alan Wake 2 is officially in development at Remedy Entertainment, and will be released in 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. No ? Yes :
Don’t leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
It is therefore with a brief teaser of barely a minute that the tortured writer announces his great return to the top of the bill. And if very few elements allow to guess what will structure the story of Alan Wake 2, the words of the person concerned are already cold in the back:
We all start a story with hopes and expectations, looking for an answer. Sometimes it would be better to live with that hope, never to find the story. It’s not the story you want it to be. This story will eat you alive. This story is a monster. And monsters have many faces.
In recent months, persistent rumors announced the return of the hero of Remedy, and the Finnish studio to clarify thatAlan Wake 2 was in their heads from the development of the first episode :
It was a lesson we learned from Max Payne, our first successful game: the idea of a sequel never crossed our minds until the game was released. Alan Wake is a drama, and we knew that for the story to continue, for Alan Wake to survive, the journey had to be difficult for him. We had no idea it would be a tough trip for us at Remedy as well. Fiction has become reality.
Summer will be hot
The joy is obviously immense on the side of Remedy, which speaks of Alan Wake 2 as “his first horror game”, where the first episode was understood as “an action game with horrific elements”. It was author Sam Lake himself who revealed the new genre into which Remedy would soon be engulfed, not without warning of the silence to come:
In keeping with the story, we’re going to stay in the shadows for a while, and we’ll be back next summer.
It will therefore be necessary to show patience. But that doesn’t matter, since Alan Wake 2 will be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X | S in 2023.
