“Star Wars: Ahsoka” does everything right, at least on the first set picture. Because although it seems very unspectacular at first glance, it contains a hidden message that announces the perfect director for the series.
You don’t usually have to expect much from a first set picture. This is usually just to give a sign of life by announcing that production is about to start. But at this early point in time, nothing is usually revealed that was not already announced in the run-up to the shooting. The case of “Star Wars: Ahsoka” is different. A single cowboy hat is enough to significantly increase my anticipation for the upcoming live-action series on Disney+. Because whoever is behind the scenes of “Star Wars’ knows this one belongs to one of the most accomplished creatives behind the saga. Here is the picture:
The headgear belongs to Dave Filoni, and since it’s hanging from the director’s chair, Filoni will likely direct one or more episodes, possibly even the all-important pilot.
That’s why Dave Filoni is the perfect director for “Star Wars: Ahsoka”
If there is one person who would describe George Lucas’ heir as “Star Wars’ creative director could worthily continue, it’s Dave Filoni. He has his roots in the animation series sector, initially taking care of the fantasy masterpiece “Avatar – The Last Airbender” and was later personally chosen by Lucas to create the very first “The Clone Wars”.Star Wars series to create at all. Since then he has been star Wars“-Universe also faithful and works exclusively for Lucasfilm. He was, among other things, on “Rebels” and “Bad Batch” as well as the live series “The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ in alternating roles as creator, director, writer, and producer.

Dave Filoni is the perfect director for Ahsoka because he’s been with the character from the start. He then directed their debut in The Clone Wars film and then continued the story of Anakin’s Jedi student as showrunner of the associated series. Since then it has always been Filoni who staged Ahsoka’s greatest moments or at least looked over the shoulders of the responsible directors as supervising director.
Whether it’s Ahsoka’s duel against Darth Vader in “Rebels”, the young warrior’s highly emotional farewell from the Jedi Order in “The Clone Wars” or her live-action debut in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian“: The Highlights in Ahsoka’sStar Wars’ resumes are all directed by Dave Filoni and as such, there is no better director for the upcoming Disney Plus series.
With “Spider-Man: A New Universe” director Peter Ramsey, another capable filmmaker has already been hired for “Ahsoka”, who will direct at least one episode. But as long as Dave Filoni takes over the pilot episode and thus sets the general direction, other directors can let off steam in the remaining episodes and contribute their skills and styles. Quite apart from the fact that Filoni as a writer and producer will have a big impact on the series anyway.
However, Dave Filoni has not yet been officially confirmed as the director of “Ahsoka”. But his cowboy hat over the director’s chair is the best possible teaser that the first set picture could deliver. Now I’m even more excited to see the Togruta Jedi appear in their live-action adventure, where they will be portrayed (as they have in Mandalorian and Boba Fett) by Rosario Dawson.
“Star Wars: Ahsoka” is expected to be released on Disney+ in 2023. But before that, on May 27, 2022, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is coming up.
