It’s probably not too high to say “Scream 5” as one of THE surprise hits of the cinema year so far. The sequel to the slasher cult not only grossed a respectable $140 million (compared to production costs of $24 million). No, above all, the meanwhile fourth “Scream’ sequel drew rave reviews and fans alike – and that’s after many horror enthusiasts were skeptical about the film. After all, it is the first chapter about killer icon Ghostface that was not directed by franchise creator and horror veteran Wes Craven, who died in 2015.
But all doubts were in vain: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett proved to be worthy successors and gave us a veritable slasher festival that only just missed the top rating in the DashFUN review. Has the horror highlight passed you by without a trace? Then you now have the opportunity to catch up on the film in a particularly convenient way: “Scream 5” is now available as a subscription to WOW (formerly Sky Ticket):

Woodsboro just can’t get any rest – and is once again plagued by a horrific series of murders. The Targets: A group of young people who seem to have a connection to the victims and survivors who have already dealt with the killer Ghostface.
With teens being killed off one by one, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), ex-Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and journalist Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) soon realize there may be no other way to stop the killer. Than going back to the place where her life was changed forever…
DashFUN chief critic Christoph Petersen gave us 4.5 out of 5 stars in our official review, labeled “Scream 5” in it, among other things, as “Episode V – The Awakening of Ghostface” – and thus suggests that the horror revival cannot even stand up to the blockbuster competition of “Star Wars“ and Co. needs to be hidden. The highlight of the matter: Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett of course know exactly about the parallels and take advantage of this fact to release an entertaining, self-deprecating meta-firework display.
In the conclusion of our criticism it is therefore also said: “The new ‘Scream’ is smart, exciting, bloody and a bit silly in the right places – like the original from 1996, it plays in the very first league of slasher films.”
After tremendous success on all levels, it wasn’t long before Studio Paramount confirmed another sequel. While original star Neve Campbell is not supposed to be part of the party for the first time, the cast has continued to grow in recent months, so that filming can be tackled as soon as possible. After all starts “Scream 6” in German cinemas as early as March 30, 2023.
