Mia Hansen-Løve did it and after “Eden” and “Everything that comes” with “Bergman Island” once again proved why she is one of the most promising filmmakers in the European cinema landscape. At least that’s how the trade press sees it: Her tribute to the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman was nominated for the Palme d’Or in Cannes, with 80 points MetaCritic one of the best-reviewed cinema films in 2021 and also just missed the top rating in the DashFUN review. It is all the more regrettable that the drama in the cinema was so lost.
The one with international stars such as Briton Tim Roth (“Reservoir Dogs”), Luxembourger Vicky Krieps (“Old”), Australian Mia Wasikowska (“Alice in Wonderland”) and Norwegian Anders Danielsen Lie (“The Worst Person in the World ’), the riddled film never made it into the top 10 of the local box office, despite stellar reviews, and grossed less than $1 million worldwide. But maybe he will get the attention he has been denied so far on the second try: Because Bergman Island is available now by subscription on Amazon Prime Video and can thus be streamed by the many, many subscribers without any additional costs:

“Bergman Island” is not only a must for all auteur cinema fans, but also an entertaining and almost excitingly calm film and the perfect fare if you make yourself comfortable in front of the TV during the next summer thunderstorm. Our author Michael Meyns awards for the “wonderfully light, but complex film about filmmaking, which tells in a subliminal way about the difficulty of the creative process, but above all about the question of whether and how a modern woman can combine career and family” excellent 4.5 out of 5 stars.
The filmmaker couple Chris (Vicky Krieps) and Tony (Tim Roth) travel without their daughter to the small Swedish island of Fårö, where the great director Ingmar Bergman not only shot some of his films, but also spent his retirement. The two want to find inspiration for their next work here, but Tony finds that much easier than his wife.
Above all, she struggles with herself – until she finally tells her husband about her idea for her new film. The focus is on the young filmmaker Amy (Mia Wasikowska), who travels to Fårö for a wedding and meets her former childhood sweetheart Joseph (Anders Danielsen Lie) there – with serious consequences…
On the other hand, if you need something to laugh at the beginning of the week, you will also be served with fresh supplies on Amazon Prime Video. As of today, the subscription also includes the “Hangover” trilogy, which has long since achieved cult status.

That’s what it’s about: After groom Doug (Justin Bartha) was lost during his bachelor party in Las Vegas in The Hangover, his friends Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Stu (Ed Helms) and brother-in-law Alan (Zach Galafianakis) were able to find him and the problems ended but not for a long time. In “Hangover 2” it’s Stu who gets married – and during a night of drinking loses the brother of his beloved wife. In “Hangover 3” it gets particularly serious, because the chaos troupe messes it up with a gangster boss (John Goodman) who is out to kill them…
