After Dune, Denis Villeneuve is expected to adapt another great classic of science fiction literature, “Rendezvous with Rama”, by Arthur C. Clarke. A project coveted by David Fincher in the early 2000s.
Denis Villeneuve’s agenda is always full! After Dune part 1 and the filming of part 2, the filmmaker will continue his path in SF.
As revealed The Hollywood Reporter, he was chosen by the Alcon Entertainment studio to direct the adaptation of a released sci-fi classic. in the 1970s, Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke.
The story of Rendezvous with Rama takes place in 2130 and focuses on the mission of a team of astronauts, brought to explore a huge ship of unknown origin that has entered the solar system.
For the Alcon Entertainment studio, this novel is “one of the most intelligent works this genre has ever delivered“. And adds:”he asks as many questions as he delivers answers, and it is a very current work. (…) It is a work which is perfectly suited to the brilliant sensitivity of our friend and collaborator Denis and particularly to his love and his passion for science fiction“. Denis Villeneuve had already collaborated with this studio for Blade Runner 2049 and Prisoners.
As a reminder, Denis Villeneuve is currently working on part 2 of Dune, the release of which is already set for 2023, as well as a series derived from Dune (Dune: The Sisterhood), not to mention another limited series called The Son, with Jake Gyllenhaal .
