Released in France at the end of the 90s, the series “Les Jumelles de Sweet Valley” could be the subject of a reboot, or almost. The CW is developing a new adaptation of the “Sweet Valley High” novels with the producers of “Gossip Girl”.

Sweet Valley High School could soon reopen. Specialized in reboots of all kinds, from Charmed to Roswell, via Walker Texas Ranger, recently returned to the air under the title of Walker, with Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) in the main role, the American channel The CW is currently preparing a new version of the Sweet Valley Binoculars.

Broadcast from 1994 to 1997 in the United States, Les Jumelles de Sweet Valley (Sweet Valley High in VO) recounted the adventures of Elizabeth (Cynthia Daniel) and Jessica Wakefield (Brittany Daniel), two twins with quite different characters who could not s ‘prevent being rivals, despite the very strong bond that united them, and who experienced the usual love affairs and other betrayals with their band of friends in the high school of a fictional small town in California.

Cult for a whole generation, the series, which has 4 seasons and 88 episodes, was first scheduled in France on TF1, before being broadcast on France 2, on Saturday morning, where it delighted the pre – teenagers and teens of the 90s, alongside fictions such as The Incredible Powers of Alex, S Club 7, or Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

According to the American site Deadline, the CW would thus be developing Sweet Valley, a new adaptation of the literary saga Sweet Valley High by Francine Pascal, who has seen no less than 181 volumes between 1983 and 2003, and had already given birth to the series of the 90s led by the Daniel sisters.

Produced via CBS Studios and Paramount TV Studios by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, already at the origin of the series Gossip Girl, Nancy Drew, or Looking For Alaska, and written by Ashley Wigfield, who already officiates on the reboot of Gossip Girl on HBO Max, Sweet Valley will take the form of a visibly darker new version, in the vein of pretty Little Liars and Riverdale, since it will be a question of disappearance and secrets.

In this “reboot”, Sweet Valley will be presented as the city in which everyone dreams of growing up. And the perfect example of this life in an idyllic setting is none other than Elizabeth Wakefield. But when her recently-missing twin Jessica miraculously reappears, this unexpected turn of events ends up rekindling a long-standing rivalry.

And it is then up to Enid Ruiz, a high school student who has recently arrived in town, to find out who is pulling all the strings in the shadows. Will she manage to convince the twins to put their personal war aside in order to bring Sweet Valley, now plunged in the darkness of secrets hidden by its inhabitants, into the light of the Californian sun?

While a film project adapted from the novels had for a time been considered with Diablo Cody (Juno) in the script, it remains to be seen whether this new version of the Sweet Valley Twins will indeed be commissioned by the CW and whether it will arrive at the scene. antenna one day. With Brittany and Cynthia Daniel as guests for one cameo or more? The future will tell.
