It was already clear at the end of the Disney+ series “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”: Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will take on the difficult legacy of his friend Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and ensure law and order as the new Captain America. He does that on the big screen in the year after next in Captain America 4: New World Order.
There are still no details about the plot of the fourth “Captain America” film. But at least we now know who Sam is dealing with, among other things: As we found out for ourselves on site at the Disney D23 trade fair in Anaheim, California, namely, Tim Blake Nelson returns as Dr. Samuel Sterns, who will then probably also listen to his well-known Marvel comic alias The Leader.
We first saw Sterns in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, when the MCU was still in its infancy. Here the scientist was responsible for turning the soldier Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) into the monstrous Hulk adversary Abomination. And Sterns ended up getting some of Bruce Banner’s blood himself, which mutated his head – a cliffhanger that hasn’t been revisited in the MCU since.

But that could now change in “Captain America: New World Order” – or maybe even in the current MCU series “She-Hulk”. Because only recently it was rumored that it is Sterns who is behind the attacks on the green heroine. After all, with his past he would be an obvious candidate for a villain who wants to get the blood of the transformed lawyer. Perhaps by the end of Season 1 he will actually be revealed as the mastermind, paving the way for his appearance in Captain America 4 on the small screen.
A second cast report also suggests that “New World Order” could also have another connection to the “X-Men”, which will also soon land in the MCU, after only recently in the series “Ms. Marvel” was the first mention of mutations in the MCU. For example, “Unorthodox” shooting star Shira Haas takes on the role of Mossad agent Sabra, who is a mutant in the comic templates. There will also be a reunion with The Falcon And The Winter Soldier characters Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) and Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly).
It’s going to be a while before we see how it all comes together though: “Captain America: New World Orderwill be released in cinemas on May 1, 2024.
