After giving us “Free Guy”, the duo Shawn Levy-Ryan Reynolds is back with “Adam through time”, released this time on Netflix. The director spoke about the possibility of seeing a sequel to his feature film being started.
What reception for Adam to through the weather?
Netflix unveiled its new movie, Adam through time. Worn by Ryan Reynolds, the film tells the story of a time-traveling pilot. Coming from the future, he lands in our time. He will then find the boy that he was as well as his father, to save the future. It is still too early to know if the feature film will make a good audience score on Netflix. But so far it has received mostly positive reviews.
As these lines are written, Adam through time obtained a score of 70% among the journalists on the specialized site Rotten Tomatoes. As for the spectators, they have so far awarded it a score of 85%. The beginnings of the film are therefore encouraging for Netflix. If its reception continues to be good in the longer term, we can think that the streaming platform will consider a sequel. Because she is used to doing it for her successful productions.
Shawn Levy does not want to make it right now
The director of Adam through time was also questioned by IndieWire on the possibility of seeing a sequel to his feature film. But he went against the tide of what we often hear from the mouths of filmmakers. Shawn Levy revealed that he preferred not to pursue his story. Because he is satisfied with the way the film ends:
When we showed Netflix the rough cuts of the film, they loved it so much that the question of a sequel was mooted. And Ryan and I talked about it, and we both said, ‘You know what? This movie is exactly what we wanted to do, and I think we’re just going to leave it alone.’ Netflix never pressured us to put on a more open ending. But I guess if I was really forced to do it, I might get some ideas for sequels.Adam through time. Right now, I don’t want to get into that because this movie ends exactly the way I wanted it to, which is this mix of warmth and tears, but also hope. I want to keep this ending.
Words to relativize
Despite the filmmaker’s statements, we imagine that Netflix might still consider a sequel. As mentioned above, this will probably be the case if many subscribers acclaim Adam through time. The streaming platform could then offer a large sum of money to Levy to convince him to reconsider his decision. Especially since the latter concedes that it should not have too much trouble finding ideas for one or even several suites.
If it seems less probable, another solution is possible. It is possible that Netflix entrusts the scenario and the realization of a new opus of Adam through time to another director if Levy sticks to his guns. His comments should therefore be taken with caution. But he and Ryan Reynolds did think of the project as a single film. We might therefore have to settle for just this one.
