The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which handed out the Oscars, is meeting on April 8 to discuss Will Smith’s slap and its consequences.

The Academy Board of Directors will meet on Friday, April 8 to discuss the actions and consequences of Will Smith, who slapped Chris Rock during the 94th Oscar broadcast. The meeting, originally scheduled for April 18, was delayed 10 days after Smith resigned from the Academy.
According to the news in Variety, the letter, sent by the Academy and signed by Academy president David Rubin, includes the following statements: “To address possible sanctions against Smith for his behavior during the Oscar broadcast on March 27, we have planned ahead of schedule. Instead of the April 18 meeting, I am calling for a board meeting at 9:00 am PT on Friday, April 8. Following Mr. Smith’s resignation from the Academy on Friday, April 1, suspension or expulsion is no longer possible and legal “The timeline envisaged as a ‘today’ is no longer valid. It is in the interest of all concerned that this is addressed in a timely manner.”
Will Smith’s resignation from the Academy made a huge impact, but in fact, this does not prevent the actor from being nominated for an Oscar or receiving the award in the future. Smith will not only be able to vote in the Academy for the next term. The decision to be taken by the Academy about the famous actor, who resigned and was at the forefront of the expulsion decision, is eagerly awaited.
