A video game giant buys the rights to Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit

Here is some unexpected news, the company Middle-earth Enterprises, which owns the rights to The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien and generally everything related to Tolkien’s world has just been bought by … Embrace Group. This Swedish group which continues to develop and carry out takeovers in an attempt to be one of the leaders in world entertainment. A goal that has very clearly been accomplished today.

The Lord of the Rings in new hands

With this gargantuan takeover, Embracer is therefore acquiring the worldwide rights to all films, video games, board games and the astronomical ton of merchandising related to Tolkien’s works. Even the series Rings of Power from Amazon which is expected at the start of the school year is concerned. The same goes for mobile gaming The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum from Daedalic Entertainment.

The total cost of this maneuver is 577 million dollars but this also includes 5 other acquisitions including Limited Run Games and Tripwire Interactive. In short, a massive takeover. It remains to be seen what will become of the Lord Of The Rings saga now. Could we see other films coming based on Peter Jackson’s version? What will happen to the Amazon series in the long term? Many questions that are currently unanswered.

Wait and see.
