The video game “A Plague Tale: Innocence” developed by the French studio Asobo Studio will have a series adaptation. Director Mathieu Turi was hired to direct.
A Plague Tale: Innocence will become a series
If cinema and video games have not always gone hand in hand, the trend seems to be starting to reverse with productions that are finding more and more of their audience. As for series, video games are also starting to make their mark with many adaptation projects emerging on American channels and platforms. But it is not only on the other side of the Atlantic that we are interested in the video game medium. The proof with this adaptation of A Plague Tale: Innocence would be in preparation by a French team.
The game is going in the middle of the 14th century in France when the Black Plague ravages the population. Amicia a teenager from a noble family, witnesses the assassination of her parents and must flee with his little brother Hugo, suffering from a mysterious illness. She will discover that the boy has exceptional abilities related to the plague and the ubiquitous rats in the region. The reason why the Inquisition pursues them.
If in terms of gameplay A Plague Tale: Innocence does not revolutionize the genre (a third-person action game that emphasizes puzzles and infiltration), the universe and the moving scenario make it a little nugget. Amicia is quickly endearing, and her initially complicated relationship with her brother creates an obvious empathy. In addition, the dark atmosphere contributes to establishing a disturbing climate.
The director of Meander at the bar
To carry out this adaptation of A Plague Tale: InnocenceAsobo Studio (the Bordeaux studio behind the game) and the publisher Focus Entertainment have joined forces with Merlin Productions, as announced in particular IGN. Information was also confirmed by Mathieu Turi, hired to direct the series. The filmmaker had started to get noticed with Hostile, a low-budget film driven by a strong concept. The same goes for his second feature film, Meander.
An interesting choice then. Especially since we know Mathieu Turi’s interest in video games. However, this time it will be a prior from a whole to the type of production with fairly substantial means to reproduce the universe of the game. We hope in any case that the result will be able to pay homage to the video game work.
Regarding the game, its sequel A Plague Tale: Requiem should be released soon on consoles and PC.
