Gamescom 2022 is back with a hybrid, on-site and remote, and greener edition. The opening ceremony organized by Geoff Keighley will also take place.
Are we finally going to relive video game events as they were before? The situation is encouraging since after the return to the old Tokyo Game Show 2022, Gamescom 2022 is also returning to its roots.
A hybrid edition
After two years of an intense pandemic, this is the first time that the situation has given us a glimpse of a return to normal. And this is thanks to an increasingly important lifting of restrictions. Faced with this finding, the Gamescom 2022 will be held at the Koelnmesse in Cologne in Germany, from August 24 to 28. Yes, face-to-face.
Felix Falk, Managing Director of the game (the German Association of Video Game Professionals), said:
All fans and partners of Gamescom have been waiting for this for two years: the fair is finally back in the exhibition halls of Cologne, and with it, the unique festival feeling that we also missed so much. This year, we combine the best of both worlds: our extensive online program with the unparalleled on-site experience. Gamescom is also setting new standards, for example in terms of sustainability: With the “Gamescom goes green” initiative, we will make the fair a special and climate-friendly event with visitors and exhibitors.
The organization also promises to open new areas for cosplay, retrogaming, or even the independent video game scene.
Gamescom 2022 and it’s opening ceremony Opening Night Live
And so that it is (really) like before, Geoff Keighley will also be in Cologne for the opening ceremony. This evening, which takes place the day before the show, is an opportunity for developers to talk and show their games. It’s roughly a conference like those of E3. In 2019, in the old world, Hideo Kojima had come with unreleased trailers of his Death Stranding.
The presenter, therefore, gives us see you on August 23 next for the Opening Night Live of Gamescom 2022.
