Based on the best-selling biography of football icon Zlatan Ibrahimović, “I Am Zlatan” primarily tells the early years of the life of the exceptional Swedish footballer.
“I Am Zlatan” shows the early years of star footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović. The son of Bosnian immigrants, he was born in Malmö, Sweden, and grew up there in a problem area. In addition to reluctantly going to school and his turbulent family life, the boy (Dominic Andersson Bajraktati) spends every day on football pitches or training the local youth team.
Here, Zlatan’s coaches recognize early on his exceptional talent, his assertiveness, his feel for the ball, and his unique instinct to always be there at the right moment. However, through lack of discipline and excessive aggressiveness, he repeatedly puts obstacles in his way, not only on the football field.
Nevertheless, the professional club Malmö FF signed him as a teenager (now: Granit Rushiti). The young center-forward is the team’s best player, but he keeps getting into arguments with the coach (Håkan Bengtsson) and his teammates. A pattern that is repeated in his later clubs…
“I Am Zlatan” will be released in German cinemas nationwide on May 19, 2022. We have already seen the film and also discussed it in detail:
“I Am Zlatan”: Close to the bestseller template.
Today’s world star had already written his autobiography, which had become a bestseller, in 2011 in collaboration with journalist and novelist David Lagercrantz (“Conspiracy”) and was also published in Germany under the title “I Am Zlatan”:
For the film to remain very close to Ibrahimović’s point of view, Lagercrantz also acted as a screenwriter for the biopic. TV director Jens Sjögren (“Hanna Svensson – Blutsbande”) took over the staging.
The title role was played by acting novices Dominic Andersson Bajraktati and Granit Ruscitti. The most prominent names on the cast list, however, are probably Håkan Bengtsson (“Better Times”), Gijs Naber (“My Wife’s Story”), and Emmanuele Aita from the Italian Netflix series “Suburra”. The latter mimed the recently deceased, controversial player agent Mino Raiola.
Here we have the original trailer in Swedish with English subtitles for you. Although it is shorter than its German counterpart, it still contains some different scene excerpts.
