It did not escape you, Monster Hunter is a hit on both consoles and PC. Under these conditions, other large publishers necessarily see this with an interested eye. In the image, of Microsoft?
It is currently a rumor but with a fairly serious background. Indeed, the always very informed journalist Jeff Grubb who hosts the podcast Giant Bomb states that Microsoft is very interested in a Monster Hunter-like game.
They are working with Certain Affinity on what looks like a Monster Hunter style game – a Monster Hunter clone. They see this style of game succeeding, and Microsoft is like, ‘hey, we should try to make one.
Note that Certain Affinity is a Texas-based development studio founded by a group of former Bungie employees. So they worked on Halo in particular. Since their creation, they have done secondary development work on games like Doom, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and more recently Halo Infinite.
They want more variety in the types of games they put on Game Pass and this is an example of that. They’re like, ‘We probably can’t get Monster Hunter on Game Pass – that would be quite expensive – but we really want a game like this because we see the long-term potential.
Without necessarily being a confirmation, the Certain Affinity studio added on its home page be working on a brand new IP. Inevitably, this leaves one wondering.
