Rust – Alec Baldwin was logically absent from film sets since the accidental death of Halyna Hutchins on October 21, 2021, which occurred during the filming of the western “Rust” and following the discharge of a firearm that the famous actor had in his hands. A little over three months after this tragedy, the actor is filming the thriller “97 minutes” and spoke about his return and his feelings.
Rust back to a rare accident
Alec Baldwin’s career will always feature a dramatic line, that of the accident that caused the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. October 21, 2021, on the set of the western Rust, New Mexico, the actor practices with a gun during a rehearsal. What should have been a normal rehearsal then took a tragic turn, since the revolver was loaded with real ammunition.
Halyna Hutchins dies of her injuries. Director Joel Souza is being treated for minor injuries. Alec Baldwin collapsed, and the investigation quickly points to a malfunction on the side of the props department.
Just over three months after the accident, Alec Baldwin is back in front of the camera for an independent thriller titled 97 minutes which is currently being produced in England.
Alec Baldwin: ‘It’s strange to go back to work’
It was on Instagram that the actor spoke, on the occasion of his first day working for the film 97 minutes. A “complicated” first day, in his words. From his hotel room, Alec Baldwin alternates between personal considerations and more professional remarks. Thus, he notes that the film crew is much younger than him and that they are good professionals. Maybe not the best, because the “best are taken on projects with bigger budgets”, but good professionals who are at the beginning of their career.
I haven’t worked since last October 21, since this horror happened on the set of this film. There was the accident and the death of our cinematographer Halyna Hutchins – I still have a hard time pronouncing it.
Fatigue, emotion, the backlash of Rust, the loneliness of the actor in his hotel room… We do not know if the 63-year-old actor has fully mastered this personal exercise, in which he engages without showing too much concern for his appearance. While he has a rich filmography, made up of films for which he has won multiple awards, and he is an important cultural figure in the United States, Alec Baldwin seems in the full reboot. By his own admission, he doesn’t know what he will do after his few days of work for 97 minutes focusing on taking each day one after the other.
97 minutes is an independent thriller directed by Timo Vuorensola. He puts on Show the hijacking of a plane that has only 97 minutes of flight time left before emptying its tanks. A production which we strongly doubt will reach French cinemas, but which could have the merit for Alec Baldwin of putting his foot in the stirrup.
