A redemption info, and therefore financial, there was a long time. Or not. In fact, on this early morning, 2K announced that it had acquired the studio based in Spain, elite3d and is preparing to expand the global presence of the 31st Union development studio belonging to 2K, as well as of the company’s Global Services division.
Hear good people … 2K announces today that the company has acquired PLATYGOBIAN, SL, operating under elite3d, one of the world’s leading creative studios dedicated to creating 2D and 3D images for the video game industry.
One company or several?
This company, obviously crucial for 2K given the move in question, is based in Valencia (Spain). The newly acquired team will be renamed in two ways: first, to form a second office for the wholly owned developer of 31st Union, but also to develop a new publishing site for 2K, “focusing on its Global Services division”.
That’s not all since 2K also announces that it has acquired TURIA GAMES, SL in Valencia, a development studio co-owned by the founders of elite3d. Financial terms and the number of jobs associated with this acquisition were not disclosed. Pity…
An unannounced AAA project
Regarding 31st Union, studio founded in February 2019 and managed by Michael condrey, veteran of the video game industry, the new Valencia office will complement the studio’s headquarters based in San Mateo (California) on the ongoing development of its unannounced and highly anticipated AAA project. Following this acquisition, 31st Union will function as a global team and integrated across all disciplines, taking an ongoing approach to seamless connection and collaboration among colleagues.
Let’s see what the different parties have to say about it … and in particular, declares David Ismailer, President of 2K:
elite3d has had a significant impact on our industry by helping many developers and publishers bring their games to life through top-notch passion and creativity ”. The work style of the team and the culture of the employees are also an excellent complement to our vision and our values. We look forward to seeing our new colleagues contribute to the progress 31st Union has made to date and play a key role in the growth and development of Global Services for our current and future games. 31st Union is founded on a culture that champions inclusiveness, talented individuals and exceptional character.
Followed by Michael Condrey, President of 31st Union :
Diversity of perspectives and experiences is the cornerstone of our growth as a team. Considering our ambitions and the scale of our game, welcoming an incredible team like elite3d was a great opportunity. We are honored to welcome Oscar, Jose and all of the elite3d members to our development family and look forward to them enriching our studio and realizing our gaming aspirations.
In short, it is urgent to wait, as they sometimes say.
